Wines and Products of the region Italy » Apulia
For many years Apulia has been defined as “Italy’s wine cellar”, for the extraordinary quantity of wine produced (in 2007 over the 13% of Italian wines have been produced in Apulia).
The remarkable quantity of wine produced and the alcoholic content have always represented an important tank of low-cost wine to strengthen the famous wines of other regions. Since some years by now a turnaround has been registered, with an always growing number of producers who prefer to aim to the quality rather than the quantity of the product.
The hot climate of the region mainly favours the production of full-bodied red wines, and among these the most representative are Salice Salentino and Primitivo di Manduria. Nevertheless, the production of white wines has also reached interesting qualitative leves, as for example in the three DOC zones of the regions: Locorotondo, Martina Franca, and Gravina.
