Wines and Products of the region France
French wines have always been considered the best of the world, and for this reason no other production method boasts as many imitation attempts as the one used in France.
The production of wines is the first in the world for commercial value, and the second after Italy in terms of quantity.
What is the success of this great wine growing production?
• An optimal environmental situation, both for a climate that is not too cold and at the same time has a sufficient quantity of rain and sun, and for an high variety of terrains that characterise the manifold wine growing zones.
• A very ancient oenologic tradition, based on a particular attention to the quality of the grape and of the cellar techniques.
• An effective marketing strategy that has contributed to the worldwide perception of French wines as products of great value.
Even though it is spread on good part of the territory, the zones of quality production in France are approximately 10, all well limited in determined geographical zones.
The four categories prodived for in the production regulations of French wines are, in the increasing order of level, the vin de Table, the vin dePays, the Vin Délimité de Qualité Supérieure (VDQS), and the vini Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC).
Very strict are the seven criteria that allow a wine to belong to the latter category; wine producers must respect the following parameters relative to the Territory of production, the typology of the vines cultivated, the yield per hectare, the minimum alcoholic content, the oenologic techniques, the coltural practices (number of vines per hectare, methods of pruning and fertilization), and to organoleptic controls.
