The morphological characteristics of Liguria, with its impervious landscape often precipitous on the sea, have always made wine growing extremely difficult.
Man’s tenacity throughout the centuries has stolen long and narrow pieces of land to the mountains, held by stonewalls on which the vine is cultivated. Therefore the lack of great areas that may consent the mechanization and an high production is at the origin of the great pulverization of factory farms, the majority of which with arable land inferior to one hectare.
The DOC productions of the region are eight: Cinque Terre, Colli di Luni, Colline di Levanto, Golfo del Tigullio, Riviera Ligure di Ponente, Rossese di Dolceacqua, Val Polcevera e Pornassio.
